Energy Efficient Lighting

Have you converted to energy-efficient lighting yet? If not, you are missing out on some great benefits, especially savings on your power bills.

What is energy efficient lighting?

The main ingredients in energy-efficient lighting are the use of CFL (compact fluorescent lamps) and LED (light-emitting diode) lamps instead of the traditional incandescent light bulbs. However, energy-efficient lighting also includes the use of timer devices and dimmer capabilities that reduce the power used by lighting.

energy efficiency lightingHow does energy-efficient lighting save money?

  • CFL lamps use 75 percent less energy and can last more than 10 times the life of traditional incandescent bulbs.
  • LEDs use 75 percent less energy than traditional incandescent lighting and less than CFLs. They last even longer than CFLs.
  • Incandescent globes use about 20% of electricity for light and waste about 80% generating heat. LEDs produce very little heat.
  • This helps explain that a 60-watt incandescent globe can be replaced by an 8 – 12 watt LED.

Although CFL and LED lighting are more expensive to purchase, the lower power consumption and long life result in significant power savings. Year after year!

What are the other benefits?

Energy-efficient lighting is ecologically friendly.

LEDs contain no toxic chemicals. On the other hand, conventional lighting contains a range of materials that are dangerous for the environment.

Design flexibility

With energy-efficient lighting, one of the important things to consider is the option to install dimmable LEDs. This means that the lighting design can be configured so that the users can control the amount of light and the distribution in their vicinity. This can not only reduce power consumption but also be beneficial for your eyes and even your mood.

Durability and low voltage

LED lighting is very durable and so can be used outdoors in areas with extreme temperatures and rainy conditions. As LEDs run on low voltage, they are suitable for outdoor locations, including being powered by a suitable solar panel.

How to save an even more with energy-efficient lighting

When you are considering installing energy-efficient lighting, you should also consider installing solar power. Then you will be using less power and using a cheaper energy source as well.
